Press Release

Kings Island - 2015

WEST CHESTER, OH – The Greater Cincinnati Automobile Dealers Association (GCADA) is launching its annual SAFE TRAVEL FOR KIDS!!™ Campaign, which promotes child passenger safety. For the third consecutive year, the GCADA has partnered with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) and Evenflo, to promote National Child Passenger Safety Month throughout the month of September. Making sure that children are properly buckled in an appropriate car seat or booster seat is a number one priority for all three organizations.

Each year, the SAFE TRAVEL FOR KIDS!!™ Campaign adopts a new theme. This year, the GCADA and its partners are reminding parents and caregivers to register their child’s car seat with its manufacturer! Although child restraint systems undergo rigorous testing and evaluation, it’s still possible that a car seat or booster seat could be recalled. The worst part? The manufacturer cannot contact a caregiver in the event of a recall if the child safety seat has not been registered.

To help spread the word, the GCADA has taken a number of measures for promotion. Over 500 posters and flyers have been sent out by the GCADA to local firehouses, pediatrician offices, OB-GYN offices, daycares, and dealerships to remind parents to REGISTER THEIR CHILD’S CAR SEAT with its manufacturer! These posters feature a QR code that will direct people to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website (www.safercar.gov/parents), where they can find out how to register their safety seat, and how to determine if their seat has an outstanding recall.

To make this year’s campaign even more fun for the kids, the GCADA has a “Spokes-Bear” named Buckles! Buckles, who was named in the GCADA’s Facebook Contest “Bear Needs a Name”, will be with them as they make special appearances throughout the month to destinations such as Kings Island, to promote SAFE TRAVEL FOR KIDS!!™ Buckles will be riding in his own car seat, BUCKLED IN PROPERLY, aiding in encouraging caregivers to register their child safety seats with its manufacturer.

As the GCADA makes appearances throughout the month of September, they will also be registering people for their Evenflo Car Seat/Booster Seat Giveaway! The Giveaway Contest’s duration is the entire month of September, and on October 1st one of 6 Evenflo car seats and 6 Evenflo booster seats will be given to 12 lucky winners!

“In the event of a collision, being properly buckled in a car seat or booster seat can be the difference between life and death for a child”, says Charlie Howard, Executive Vice President, GCADA. “But, it’s equally as important to know if your child’s safety seat has been recalled!” For this reason, child passenger safety seat registration is highly important! For more information concerning child passenger safety, and to enter to win 1 of 12 Evenflo car/booster seats go to www.gcada.net.
