National CPR/AED Week is upon us!

Did you know? That 4 out of 5 cardiac arrests take place at home.  But, that effectively performed CPR can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival?

To promote the importance of this life saving skill set, the Greater Cincinnati Automobile Dealers Association (GCADA) in partnership with the American Red Cross, is promoting National CPR and AED Awareness week – June 1-7.  This initiative is important to both organizations, as the GCADA is a leading provider of CPR manikins to tri-state non-profit organizations that provide training, and the American Red Cross is a leading provider of CPR/AED certification.

To begin the CPR/AED campaign, the GCADA in conjunction with the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation (NADCF), presented a Baby Anne Cardiopulmonary training manikin bag, containing four infant manikins to the Red Cross this past Wednesday, May 28th; the donation was sponsored by Northland Volkswagen.  The GCADA will continue to raise awareness throughout the month of June by donating training manikins to other local organizations in need.

No one wants to be in a situation where someone they love is in need of CPR, and they can’t even perform it correctly.  For such reasons, CPR training is very important, and strongly encouraged for people of all ages.  Members of the GCADA and the NADCF are committed to providing training manikins to hospitals, police, fire departments, schools, and red crosses.  Any non-profit organization that provides CPR training, and is in need of one of these training manikins may contact their local new car retailer, or Sandy Moeller at the GCADA office at smoeller@gcada.net or 513-326-7100.

Love for a Jeep That Went to War

“I can’t tell you the number of times that a veteran has come up to me and said, ‘My Goodness, I haven’t ridden in one of those since 1945.’ ” David Cadorette, a business consultant and vice president of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association from Amherst, N.H., sat on his 1942 Jeep and told the story of how he came to possess such a special historical artifact (Baime).  Cadorette says that he bought the Jeep in 1995 for $4500, and was later able to determine not only where the vehicle was made, but that it made its way to the military on November 9, 1942.  Between learning and researching, finding and making parts, restoring the vehicle took five years to complete!  Interested in more information on this piece?  Click here.

Fitzgerald Auto Malls protects 45,000 children on the road

Yesterday, Thursday, May 15th marked a very special day for one Maryland-based dealership, Fitzgerald Auto Malls, as they reached a milestone after installing and inspecting their 45,000th child safety seat since its program began in 1999.  The Fitzgerald Child Car Seat Inspection Program was started in 1999 after CEO, Jack Fitzgerald learned the dangers of improperly installed child safety seats.  Since then, Fitzgerald Auto Malls, in partnership with national and local government agencies, has been committed to injury prevention and increasing total lives saved through properly installed child safety seats (“Fitzgerald Auto”).  Not only is Fitzgerald Auto Malls proud of their success in helping their community by promoting public safety, but government officials have had positive things to say as well.

In addressing this cause for celebration, Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler said, “Congratulations to all of our state and local law enforcement and fire and rescue professionals who’ve teamed with Jack Fitzgerald and his staff, for their hard work and dedication to protecting the most vulnerable passengers in any vehicle.”  Making sure that children are properly secure at all times, on every trip is vital for their safety.  The Greater Cincinnati Automobile Dealers Association will partner with Children’s Hospital Medical Center Child Passenger Safety Program during the month of September in an effort to promote safe travel for kids.  For more information on Child Passenger Safety, click here.

Summer never felt so good

Jeep is coming back this summer, and they’re bringing the late King of Pop Music with them!  It’s no secret that the summer is an important time of year for Jeep, and they’re launching a new marketing effort that will feature the late Michael Jackson’s unreleased single, Love Never Felt So Good.   Olivier François, Chief Marketing Officer of Chrysler Group LLC, admits he pounced on the “huge opportunity” to link the Jeep brand to a “priceless” unreleased Jackson song (McCarthy).  “Jeep is an American icon as much as Michael Jackson is an American icon.  Jeep is timeless as much as Michael Jackson is timeless”, said Francois.  He also stated that the move made sense both from a strategic and advertising perspective.  The May 13 release of the new Jackson album meshed nicely with his plan to launch a more stylish second-tier campaign around Jeep’s key summer selling season that went more for the heart than the wallet (McCarthy).  The new single will be played in Jeep’s “Call of Summer” commercial.  To view the commercial, check out our home page.

Global Youth Traffic Safety Month

The month of May is the beginning of countless great things.  Yesterday, May 1st, marked the start of the 8th anniversary of Global Youth Traffic Safety Month.  Each May youth across the country unite during Global Youth Traffic Safety Month to focus on the leading cause of death for them and their peers: traffic related crashes.  This month empowers youth to develop and lead traffic safety education projects, and to support law enforcement and affect legislation to protect teen drivers (NOYS).  The CEO of the National Organizations of Youth Safety, NOYS, Anita Boles says that they’re fighting back against this epidemic by getting teens involved in the solution (“National Organizations”).  Using other young adults to educate their peers about this topic is good idea; given that, peers’ influence on students’ educational outcomes is among the most powerful social forces affecting youth behavior (Alvarado).  The NOYS coalition is very focused on the safety and health of the youth, and their efforts to promote Global Youth Traffic Safety Month 2014 haven’t gone unnoticed.  Click here for more.
