Wake Up The Heart! Learn CPR & AED training

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a life-saving technique useful in many emergencies, including sudden cardiac arrest.  During the month of June, we will be promoting CPR and AED Awareness with our 2 Steps To Wake Up The Heart campaign. In order to promote National CPR/AED Awareness Week June 1 – 7, the GCADA supports CPR training and is alerting the community that dialing 911 and beginning CPR are the first 2 Steps To Wake Up The Heart!

Join us in our campaign by learning CPR so that you too can wake up the heart!  For information regarding CPR/AED training and certification, visit www.redcross.org/Ip/take-a-class.  Any non-profit agency that engages in CPR/AED training and is in need of a new training manikin may contact Sandy Moeller in the GCADA office at 513-326-7100 or go to www.gcada.net/cpr, for more information.

CPR/AED Awareness Week is around the corner!

Are you trained to perform CPR/AED in the event of a cardiac emergency? If not, isn’t it time you learned CPR and AED training? This year during the month of June, the GCADA will be promoting CPR and AED Awareness with our 2 Steps to Wake Up The Heart Campaign. Our dealers and associate members will be alerting the community that dialing 911 and beginning CPR are the first two steps to wake up the heart!

We have partnered with the American Red Cross, who is a leading provider of CPR/AED training, to shed light on the importance of this life-saving skill set. CPR not only improves a victim’s chance of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest, but is also useful in many emergency situations.

The GCADA in conjunction with the NADA Charitable Foundation (NADCF), donates CPR manikins to area non-profit organizations who provide CPR/AED training. The GCADA promotes CPR/AED training year round, but still looks forward to the month of June, as June 1-7 is observed as National CPR/AED Awareness Week, and encourages training courses. It’s because everyone may not be able to arrange classes, or promote CPR/AED during the first week of June, that we take the entire month of June to really encourage CPR/AED training courses and recertification!

During the month of June, the GCADA’s CPR Manikin Donation Program will be extremely active in the community, donating manikins to fire departments, YMCA’s and other non-profits in need. Our dealer members who sponsor these donations are extremely excited to participate and promote CPR/AED awareness in their communities this coming June! If you’re an area non-profit organization who provides CPR/AED training, and is in need of a manikin, contact us or your local dealer!

Woman saves toddler hit by car using CPR

It was just last week in Colerain, OH, that a wrong turn placed a woman in the right place at the right time.  A toddler who was hit by a car and assumed to be dead by witnesses, was able to be revived by CPR certified trainer, Angelika Nunn, who typically took a different route home.  Stopped in traffic caused by an accident, a man approached Nunn’s vehicle to say that a boy had been hit and killed by a car.  Nunn, being a CPR certified trainer, immediately grabbed her things and rushed to the boy through dozens of witnesses to see if there was anything that she could do to help.

“He didn’t have a pulse, a heartbeat, no signs of life so I instantly just started doing the CPR and I just kept doing it,” said Nunn.  “As I’m pumping him, I’m saying hey little guy.  Mommy is here.  I’m trying to jog him to breathe and to keep breathing because I was scared to death.”  Jim Love of the Colerain Police Department made a statement saying, “doing what is necessary and doing what should be done when the opportunity presents itself is very heroic.”  Though Nunn won’t classify herself as a hero, many Colerain police officers will.

To brighten matters, Nunn is offering a free CPR training course to the mother of the toddler, and witnesses there that day who did not have the training to help.  In light of National CPR/AED Awareness Week beginning June 1st and going through the 7th of the month, the GCADA promotes CPR/AED training and encourages everyone to learn!  CPR is easy to learn and saves lives; get certified!
