In collaboration with the DeWine Administration and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, OADA successfully pursued a rule to incentivize dealers to offer registration services for their customers’ convenience.
The rule has been in effect for 18 months and allows dealers to charge a negotiable registration convenience fee of as much as $50.00 for each purchase and lease transaction. The fee can be collected in addition to all other fees and costs associated with purchases and leases.
Dealerships around the state offering registration service are reporting penetration rates as high as 80 percent.
There are three simple steps to the process:
- Deliver required registration or registration transfer documents to a deputy registrar on behalf of your customer.
- Receive the license plate, validation sticker and registration document from the deputy registrar by return mail.
- Deliver the license plate, validation sticker and registration document to the customer.
